September marks my second exhibition. A Month of Photography is a photography festival organized by Art in the City. Again, I have focused my efforts on photo impressionism levering my experience earlier this year at Toronto's Contact photography festival. My images appear at two venues: Mississauga's Living Arts Centre and Mercedes Benz - Mississauga where l am sharing space with Hugh Wesley.

Photo Impressionism Has Legs

Looking at the other exhibitions (here is a link to the catalogue) it is clear that photographers are taking more chances with photo impressionistic techniques. Hugh Wesley, for example is showing a series of images that focus on shape and colour. Other exhibitions use constructed images or lens distortion to produce their desired effect. The catalogue is definitely worth a look.

When I started my photo impressionism project in 2003, Google searches produced only a handful of sites featuring photo impressionistic images. Today, the same search produces dozens of pages of search results.

There is there something interesting going on here. Digital camera makers are producing tools that produce sharper, shake free images. Photographers are shooting images that rely on distortion and/or multiple exposure to produce their impression of the scene.
